Overview

A uniquely Canadian experience awaits on this fabulous wildlife holiday. Enjoying a variety of boat trips, excursions and hikes, you will experience bear watching, wildlife spotting and marine life viewing,

You'll start with a night or more in Vancouver, then fly up to Campbell River on Vancouver Island. After overnighting here, you will enjoy the archetypal Canadian experience of a floatplane flight up to Knight Inlet Lodge. Over the next three days you will have a fantastic variety of outdoor activities, ensuring that you get the most from your wilderness adventure. (TM/JV)

This is a tailormade holiday so we can extend your stay in Western Canada to experience more of the beautiful lakes, mountains and coastline, including three nights at Knight Inlet Lodge (which can be extended for up to six nights at the lodge). We can also build a superb road trip around this wildlife experience, allowing you time to travel at your own pace and discover this glorious region.

Day 1 - Vancouver

Arrive into Vancouver and transfer independently to your hotel. You might like to extend your holiday with a few more days in Vancouver to enjoy this fabulous city.

Overnight: Georgian Court Hotel or similar (other upgraded hotels are available at a supplement)

Day 2 - Vancouver - Campbell River

This morning you will fly from Vancouver (South Terminal) up to Campbell River on Vancouver Island to begin your wildlife adventure. The flight is approximately 60 minutes over beautiful British Columbia.The rest of the day is at your leisure in this charming coastal town.

Overnight: Comfort Inn and Suites

Day 3 - Campbell River to Knight Inlet

After an 08.30 transfer from your hotel to the floatplane base, you will depart at 09.30 on the short flight to Knight Inlet Lodge. Once settled in at the comfortable lodge, and following a brief orientation, you will embark on a small boat excursion in the estuary. Two tours or 2-hours each follow in the afternoon; one of these tours is a bear viewing tour (by boat in the spring and on a viewing platform from late August to October), and the other will be a Knight Inlet sightseeing cruise. You will be accompanied on all excursions by a knowledgeable guide trained in the local wildlife and natural history of the area. In the evening relax in the lounge while enjoying an interpretive presentation by one of the guides.

Day 4 & 5 - Knight Inlet

During your stay at the Lodge you have a choice of bear viewing and wildlife watching excursions

  • Daily excursions to Johnstone Strait for marine wildlife viewing
  • Bald Eagle and other bird watching
  • Scenic boat cruise of Knight Inlet and to see the grizzly bears from platforms or boats
  • Excursion to Thompson Sound and Bond Sound for bear and wildlife viewing
  • Evening interpretative programme
  • Wildlife tracking to make plaster casts of animal prints
  • Interpretative forest hike in the Kwalate River Valley

Day 6 - Knight Inlet - Campbell River - Vancouver

After breakfast you will have one final opportunity to participate in a bear viewing boat excursion before your 10:00 return transfer to Campbell River by floatplane. On arrival in Vancouver transfer independently to your hotel.

Day 7 - Vancouver end of tour

You can enjoy the morning to explore Vancouver before your evening flight home. Alternatively extend your holiday with a few more nights in this vibrant city or perhaps add on a few nights in Victoria - the charming capital of British Columbia located on Vancouver Island reached by a picturesque ferry ride.

  • For guests that fly to Campbell River: Transfers from Campbell River airport to hotel on arrival day, hotel to the floatplane terminal on day 2, and return to Campbell River airport on departure day
  • Passengers with cars should drive to the floatplane base themselves (5 minute drive from hotel; directions provided locally). Paid parking is available at Campbell River floatplane dock for passengers who drive to the base.
  • Return floatplane from Campbell River floatplane dock to Knight Inlet Lodge (check-in at 08:15, return flight arrives in Campbell River at 11:15)
  • Welcome orientation and safety briefing
  • Bear viewing tours by boat in the Spring and Summer and at viewing platforms in the Fall
  • One excursion per day at the lodge to the viewing platforms starting in the Fall, excluding departure day

  • Daily activities may be modified depending on weather and water level conditions
  • All outdoor experiences will be enjoyed in teams of maximum 8 guests so that the true magnificence of the Inlet is experienced. Groups will be formed on arrival at the lodge. The lodge can accommodate 26 guests at one time.
