Explore the Beauty of Prince Edward Island

With a bounty of delicious seafood delicacies, spectacular red sand beaches and pretty lighthouses, Prince Edward Island is the epitome of a beautiful maritime province. The verdant farmland and bright green landscapes found both on the island of the same name and the small islands surrounding it make this province even more enticing.

What to do in Prince Edward Island

If you’re travelling to Prince Edward Island, it would be disastrous not to tuck in to the variety of seafood on offer, especially the fresh lobster and mussels. In fact, we could even go as far as saying that this province is home to some of the best mussels in the world. As the islands are small, the soil itself is rich and verdant, producing a delicious mix of fruits, vegetables, and meat and dairy products. Washing it all down at one of the pretty wineries is the perfect way to spend a relaxing afternoon.

The dramatic red sand beaches offer a one-of-a-kind seaside holiday, paving the perfect landscape for beach volleyball, building sand castles, and jumping the waves. Where ever you turn, you’ll be desirably close by to a beach or even a golf course – there are over 25 courses here. The contrast of red sand and rolling green hills paves Prince Edward Island as one of Canada’s most picturesque Maritime Provinces.

It’s no surprise then, that Prince Edward Island would be used as inspiration for a writer’s story. Lucy Maud Montgomery’s stories of Anne of Green Gables in 1908 talked vividly of the province’s beauty, and still to this day fans of the book come to see the land for themselves, or even watch Anne of Green Gables – The Musical in the capital city, Charlottetown.

When to visit Prince Edward Island

Those hoping to soak up the sun on the beach will relish the warm weather from July to August, whilst those spending their days on the golf course are best to visit in September. If you’re hoping to join in with foodie celebrations, September to October is host to ‘Fall Flavours’, a month-long festival celebrating all of the cuisine the island has to offer, or visit in April to dig in to ‘Burger Love’, where at least 45 restaurants offer a variety of juicy burgers to find the best.
