Overview

A once-in-a-lifetime holiday wildlife watching in central Canada. You will have the opportunity to spot the Manitoba Big Five - black bear, polar bear, moose, beluga whale and bison.

Begin the adventure in the Riding Mountain National Park, where you will go on a wildlife drive to search for moose, bison and black bear. You will tour the park at different times of day to enjoy the changing landscape and roaming animals. Then you will fly north to the town of Churchill on the edge of the tundra. You will learn all about the historical and ecological significance of the area on a guided tour, including a visit to the Eskimo Centre. A boat tour will take you into the Churchill River estuary where schools of beluga whales gather to feed.

Churchill sees over 300 nights of auroral activity each year and so there's a good chance you will be able to see the northern lights during your stay. After a second Beluga boat trip, this time on a Zodiac so you'll be close up and personal with the beluga whales, you will then take an exhilarating dog-sled ride. The final part of your adventure is on board a Tundra Buggy - specially designed to travel the tundra, you may be lucky and spot a summer polar bear cooling itself in the waters of the Hudson Bay. You certainly will be able to spot and photograph may species of birds and wildlife, before heading back to Winnipeg. (JV - on request)

Day 1

Arrival in Winnipeg

Fly to Winnipeg and transfer independently to the hotel at Winnipeg airport. In the evening you will meet your Interpretive Guide for a meet and greet over dinner (included)

Day 2

Winnipeg - Riding Mountain National Park

Transfer by coach to the Riding Mountain National Park, taking just over three hours, and stopping en route at the Farmery Estate Brewery. You will have an introduction to this beautiful national park and in the evening, enjoy a wildlife safari.

Overnight: Lakehouse hotel, Riding Mountain National Park (breakfast, lunch & dinner included)

Day 3

Riding Mountain National Park

This morning you will take a wildlife drive thorugh the park, and then enjoy Interpretive walking tour of the lovely village of Wasagaming and surrounding area. In the afternoon take a guided cruise on beautiful Clear Lake aboard The Martese. This evening you will take a wildlife drive to the Lake Audy Bison Enclosure to see these beauitful animals.

Overnight: Lakehouse hotel, Riding Mountain National Park (breakfast, lunch & dinner included)

Day 4

Riding Mountain National Park - Winnipeg

Experience an early morning wildlife before breakfast, then take a guided hike through pristine Ominik Marsh, perhaps spotting beaver and other wildlife. Then you'll return to Winnipeg by coach, check into your hotel and enjoy a final dinner.

Day 5

Winnipeg - Churchill

Take an early morning flight north to the remote community of Churchill. Experience a Tundra Buggy adventure in the Churchill Wildlife Management Area. Then you are free to explore Churchill and enjoy an evening meal.

Overnight: Accommodation in a local inn (breakfast, lunch & dinner included)

Day 6

Churchill

Today you will take a Churchill town and area tour, then visit Polar Bear International House to learn all about these magnificent creatures and their habitat. then you will take a boat tour of the Churhill River and a guided tour of historic Prince of Wales Fort. The excitement will continue with a Dog Cart ride (dog sledding without the snow!)

Overnight: Accommodation in a local inn (breakfast, lunch & dinner included)

Day 7

Churchill - Winnipeg

This morning you will enjoy a zodiac boat ride on the Churchill River to see the beautiful beluga whales. In the afternoon visit the Park Canada Visitor Centre and the fascinating Isantitaq museum. In the evening fly back to Winnipeg and enjoy a relaxing dinner in your overnight hotel

Day 8

Winnipeg

Today you will either fly home or continue your Canadian adventure.
