Overview

With everything from striking snow-capped scenery to quaint Canadian villages, this week long tour shows off the very best of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Enjoy the mesmerising blue of Lake Louise before taking in the myriad unforgettable sights of Jasper National Parks. You’ll cross glaciers in a purpose built vehicle, explore the charming town of Banff and even get the chance to try out your skills at Canada’s national sort – ice hockey.

Details

Day 1

Arrive in Calgary

Arriving in Canada you’ll transfer to your hotel which is located right at the centre of Calgary. You’ll then have the afternoon free to relax or explore the city. At 6pm you’ll have a welcome meeting with your tour guide where you’ll get to meet your group and go over the details of the amazing journey that awaits you.

Day 2

Lake Louise/Jasper

Today you’ll begin the tour, heading northwards into the stunningly beautiful Canadian Rockies. The first stop with be the breathtaking Lake Louse – often referred to as the Jewel of the Canadian Rockies. Enjoy the pretty views (and make sure you take plenty of photos) before heading onwards on the Icefields Parkway, looking out over towering mountains and impressive glaciers. Catch a glimpse of the wildlife including moose, elk and mountain goats – with a bit of luck you might see a grizzly or black bear. Finally you’ll reach the pretty town of Jasper where you’ll spend the night.

Day 3

Jasper National Park

Today you’ll start with morning with time to relax and venture out at leisure to enjoy some of Jasper’s quaint architecture and streets. Alternatively you have the option to take a trip down Athabasca River. In the afternoon you’ll regroup for a guided walk of Maligne Canyon – well known as a truly beautiful gorge. Here you’ll learn about the underground rivers of the valley and enjoy impressive natural sights.

In the afternoon you’ll venture onwards to Maligne Lake where you’ll enjoy a cruise and have dinner on the boat. After dinner there’s a fascinating presentation by a local wildlife specialist to introduce you to the different animals of the area. You’ll then return to the hotel to spend the night.

Day 4

Athabasca Glacier/Banff

Today you’ll depart Jasper and head south. You’ll stop off at the Columbia Icefield Visitor Centre where you’ll step on to the Ice Explorer, an enormous vehicle that has been specially designed to travel on glaciers. The Ice Explorer will take you to the Athabasca Glacier and on the way you’ll learn about glaciers and icefields.

Next you’ll depart the vehicle and experience the exceptional views from the Glacier Skywalk – an observation platform which include a spectacular glass-floor section. Later you’ll drive on to the famous village of Banff. After having dinner you’ll enjoy a relaxed chat with a retired Canadian Mountie who will share stories.

Day 5

Banff

Today is a full day of sightseeing and free time in Banff. In the morning you’ll have the option to go on a wonderful helicopter flight for an unforgettable view of the Canadian Rockies. Alternatively enjoy some free time to explore at leisure. You’ll then get on a sightseeing excursion around the town and out into the natural wonderland that surrounds the village. Visit the beautiful Bow Falls and see world-class rock formations.

Day 6

Banff/Yoho National Park

In the morning you can either opt for a morning at leisure for further exploration of the town at your own pace, or opt for an excursion to Yoho National Park where you’ll see famous sights including Takkakaw Falls, Kicking Horse Pass and Spiral Tunnels.

In the evening you’ll travel to a ranch for a special farewell dinner with your group. The ranch is a beautiful place with lovely alpine meadows and a huge variety of wildlife. After dinner enjoy a memorable lined dancing lesson.

Day 7

Canmore/Calgary

You’ll head down from the Canadian Rockies and stop in Canmore for a chance to experience a classic Canadian pastime – ice hockey. Even if you have never skated, you’ll be sure to have an incredible time as you visit an arena with a professional coach. You’ll visit the players’ dressing room and then put on hockey gear to get out onto the ice. This is Canada’s national game and this is a great way to experience real Canadian culture.

Finally you’ll transfer back to Calgary International Airport to catch your flight home.
