Halifax

Today enjoy a full day of independent exploration. Perhaps begin with a stroll to the top of the Citadel National Historic Site which will give you a great views of the harbour and city. Built in 1749 and restored in the Victorian era, the Citadel’s star shaped architecture is impressive both inside and out.  After discovering all about the history of the area in the fascinating museums, it will be time to take a break – try out one of the great pubs with craft beers brewed on site. This afternoon you could tour the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, visit HMCS Sackville restored to her WW2 glory, stroll through Point Pleasant Park or view the local landmarks such as the Old Town Clock, the City Hall and Province House.

Day 3

Halifax – Whale watching & wildlife cruise

Today enjoy a Whale-watching & Wildlife Viewing cruise. Taking two and a half hours, you will depart from Halifax Harbour to cruise to Chebucto Head. On board there will be experienced naturalists commentating on the wildlife, geography and history of the area, whilst you spot whales and other marine life. Remember your warm clothes and camera.

Day 4

Halifax – Lunenburg & Mahone Bay Tour

This morning you’ll be picked up from your hotel to join a kilted guide for an enchanting tour of Lunenburg and Mahone Bay, situated on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, about an hour and a half from Halifax. Discover the history of fishing, boat building, the pirates of Oak Island and the rum running along this craggy coastline. Lunenburg, filled with extraordinary architecture and appealing shops, is also home to the Lunenburg Academy and Nova Scotia’s largest fishing fleet. Choose between a walking tour of Lunenburg or entrance to the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic. Then drive through Mahone Bay, famous for its shoreline churches and picturesque beauty, and take time to explore this lovely area independently. The tour lasts 6 hours in total, when you’ll be returned to your hotel.

Day 5

Halifax – Peggy’s Cove Excursion

Enjoy a leisurely morning in Halifax then early afternoon take a guided tour to Peggy’s Cove – a picture-postcard village perched on the rugged Atlantic shoreline. Peggy’s Point Lighthouse, built in 1915, is the most photographed in Canada. Enjoy the view of waves exploding on the rocks and quaint wooden houses perched along the narrow inlet. Sample the famous gingerbread at the Sou’Wester Restaurant and the homemade icecream at Dee Dee’s. Browse the arts & crafts stores scattered among the fishing shacks. The tour will take three hours and you’ll be dropped off back on the Waterfront or at your hotel.
