This nine night tour takes you from the bustling cosmopolitan coastal city of Vancouver, through the magnificent Canadian Rockies to the vibrant cowboy vibes of Calgary. Your journey from Vancouver to Jasper is by overnight rail through canyons and past gushing glacial waters. You’ll ride a cable car and wonder at stunning vistas in Jasper whilst Banff offers amazing snow-capped peaks as a backdrop to turquoise crystal clear lakes.

The stunning natural wilderness you will travel through is home to caribou, bear and buffalo to name but a few and this escorted rail and coach tour brings out the very best the natural environment has to offer. Your tour includes a two day rail journey through the heartland of Columbia from the Coast Mountains, breathtaking Canyona and past the towering snow capped peak of Mt. Robson. (CL)

Day 1

Vancouver

Arrive into Vancouver and transfer to your downtown hotel to check in and enjoy the remainder of the day to explore at leisure. Set against the Pacific Ocean and Coast mountains, this vibrant and cosmopolitan city offers plenty to see and do including Stanley Park, Prospect Point and English Bay

Day 2

Vancouver Island

Today you’ll catch a ferry to the balmy Vancouver Island, home to the state capital of Victoria.  Once you have disembarked, you’ll visit the enchanting Butchant Gardens, designated a National Historic Site. These pristine floral display gardens include a colourful rose garden and delightful Japanese and Italian gardens. A short sightseeing tour of Victoria the state capital of British Columbia beautifully showcases the ‘City of Gardens’. Highlights include the stunning Legislative Building, Empress Hotel and charming yacht filled harbour. Take some time to stroll the vibrant downtown offering the chance to explore the many shops bistros and bars on offer. Catch the ferry back to Vancouver and enjoy your evening at leisure.

Day 3

Vancouver

Your day starts with a tour of the Stanley Park, Vancouver’s magnificent urban park surround by the waters of Vancouver Harbour and English Bay.  You’ll then visit the city’s bustling Chinatown and Gastown districts. Gastown is a hub of shops, restaurants and bar that is also home to Vancouver’s famously photogenic steam powered clock.

In the afternoon you will board your VIA Rail train bound for Jasper. Riding up through British Columbia’s agricultural heartland taking in the Coast and Cascade mountain you’ll enjoy a delicious lunch from one of the trains several domed observation cars. Passing through Fraser Canyon and past the gushing torrents of Hell’s Gate you’ll wonder at the amazing scenery you are passing through. Relax and overnight as you are gentle rocked asleep in your own private accommodations.

Day 4

Jasper

Enjoy your breakfast as you glide alongside the magnificent Canadian Rockies passing the towering snow-capped peak of Mt. Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies Continue past the beautiful still waters of Moose lake perhaps catching a glimpse of the native mountain bears or caribou before a morning arrival into Japser.
Upon arrival you’ll make your way to Pyramid Lake a stunning natural beauty set against the Rocky Mountains. Here you can take a leisure stroll along the shore taking in the beautiful natural surroundings before hopping on the Jasper Skytram the highest and longest aerial tramway in Canada. At the top you can hike the summit trail and enjoy the majestic mountain and alpine views over lunch at the Summit Restaurant.

Day 5

Jasper

Today you will transfer to Maligne lake for breakfast set against the shimmering waters of Canada’s largest lake, in this picture-perfect setting. Following breakfast head for the breath-taking Maligne Canyon where you can trace its course and take in the gushing waters from a series of overlook bridges. Returning to your hotel you’ll now have time to explore Jasper's downtown area taking in the Jasper-Yellowhead Museum or the town’s planetarium.

Day 6

Icefields Parkway-Glacier Experience or Glacier Skywalk-Lake Louise

Join the Icefields Parkway that on your way to Lake Louise you will pass through a truly amazing mountain landscapes that boast glaciers, snow-capped peaks, and rushing rivers. Your first stop on this iconic highway is at the breath-taking Athabasca Falls whose power can be seen up close from nearby overlooks and bridges. Head for the Columbia Icefield where you can take a thrilling ride on the glacier itself or marvel at the incredible vistas from the amazing glass-bottomed Glacier Skywalk set high above the Sunwapta Valley. Move on to Peyto Lake, keeping an eye out for roaming bears and Elk, where you will wonder at the tranquil turquoise waters set against a magnificent mountain and alpine backdrop.  Arriving into Lake Louise you will check into the famous Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise hotel where you’ll have a range of dining options to choose from.

Day 7

Lake Louise - Banff

Today you will be heading to Banff a charming mountain resort town nestled amid glorious snow-capped mountains. Along the way you stop at the shores of the idyllic Lake Moraine. This glacier-fed lake is set against a range of peaks which together with its turquoise waters make it one of the prettiest and most photographed spots in the Canadian Rockies.  Visible from Lake Moraine you’ll pass through the towering Ten Peaks valley with their distinctive saw-toothed appearance.
Your hotel for the next two nights is at the imposing Fairmont Banff Springs where you’ll be another array of great dining options available at one of the hotels several restaurants.

Day 8

Banff

After breakfast you set off on a scenic tour taking in the gushing waters of the powerful Bow falls – wide and short unlike most waterfalls, but amazing none the less. Hike along a nearby trail to the bizarre looking array of Hoodoos - rock formations, also known as ‘the land of the sleeping giants’, that have been created through natural erosion by wind and water.  From here you will meet a local gemstone expert specialising in the rare ammolite stones that are only found in Alberta, Canada.
Your afternoon is at leisure where you can explore the delights of downtown Banff.

Day 9

Banff – Calgary

Leaving the wonders of the Canadian Rocky Mountains you will head out on the trans-Canada Highway for the sweeping prairies of Alberta en-route to the Kananaskis Valley.  Here you’ll visit local ranch and meet the family that lives there. You will also get the chance to try out a line dance lesson, try your luck with a game of horseshoes or take a wagon ride looking for buffalo. Your exertions will be rewarded with a delicious traditional Albertan BBQ. Enjoy the prairies as you then head into the bustling city of Calgary.

Day 10

Calgary

Your tour ends in Calgary so you‘ll have the chance to stay on and explore this vibrant city, continue with the rest of your travels or begin your journey home.
