Discover the various charms of western Canada’s colonial cities and the astonishing Canadian Rockies on this fantastic 10 night rail tour.
Starting in Vancouver and ending in Calgary, you will journey through the buzzing cities of Victoria and Vancouver before hopping on board the luxurious Rocky Mountaineer to enjoy panoramic views of the Rocky Mountains and the secluded towns of Whistler, Quesnel and Jasper. Afterwards, marvel at the beauty of Icefields Parkway and Lake Louise as you make your way to the delightful Banff National Park.

Details

Day 1

On arrival at Vancouver International Airport, you will transfer independently to your hotel, where an information kit will be waiting for you at the front desk. The rest of the day is yours at leisure to explore what Vancouver has to offer. A bustling city with a thriving art, theatre and entertainment scene, there’ll be plenty to keep you occupied, including the contemporary Vancouver Art Gallery and delicious eateries at Granville Island.

Day 2

Start the day with a fun San Francisco style hop-on hop-off trolley bus adventure, offering live commentary with interesting facts about Vancouver’s best attractions, including the scenic Stanley Park, Chinatown, historic Gastown and Granville Island. After the tour you’ll be able to while away the afternoon however you wish.

Day 3

Today you’ll venture on a full-day excursion to the coastal city of Victoria. Begin with a 95 minute ferry ride through the luscious Gulf Islands, before arriving at the southern tip of Vancouver Island and the picturesque views of Victoria’s harbour. Upon arrival, you’ll embark on a fully narrated tour of the colonial city, revealing the fascinating history it holds. In the afternoon you’ll be able to meander through the beautiful Butchart Gardens, home to an array of exotic flower displays from all over the world. Before making your way back to Vancouver, slowly stroll along the charming Inner Harbour Waterfront, with glistening waters and lines of pretty boats.

Day 4

In the early morning, independently transfer to the north train station to board the Rocky Mountaineer. As you make your way to Whistler, you’ll be able to tuck in to a tasty breakfast as the stunning views of Howe Sound, Mount Garibaldi and Cheakamus Canyon whirl past your window. The rest of the day is free to explore the quaint town of Whistler, with cute restaurants and shops and beautiful mountain backdrops

Day 5

Wake up early for your transfer to Whistler rail station, where you’ll board the Rocky Mountaineer again for a delightful breakfast. Throughout your journey, you’ll be amazed by the gorgeous sceneries of Anderson Lake, Seton-Lake and Fraser Canyon, plus the marvellous view of one of the highest railway bridges in the world – Deep Creek Bridge. Later in the day you’ll arrive at the small city of Quesnel, before being transferred to your hotel for the night. Lunch is also included on board the Rocky Mountaineer.

Day 6

On day six you’ll board the Rocky Mountaineer again for a scenic ride to Jasper National Park. Look out for the breath-taking Fraser River, Rocky Mountain Trench, Yellowhead Pass and Mount Robson before winding through Jasper’s dense forest. The remainder of the day is free for you to explore the characterful town of Jasper, with pretty buildings and boutique shops. Breakfast and lunch is included on board the Rocky Mountaineer.

Overnight: Standard option – Marmot Lodge or Lobstick Lodge Jasper. Deluxe option – The Crimson or Chateau Jasper

Day 7

The day is completely at your leisure. Dip in and out of independent shops and bars; take a scenic hiking trail through the lush forest, or soar up high in the Jasper Skytram for unbeatable views of the surrounding mountain peaks.

Day 8

Enjoy a magnificent sightseeing transfer to Lake Louise, ambling past views of mountain ranges, topaz lakes and colourful meadows. The transfer will take you through the striking Icefields Parkway, one of the most beautiful roads in the world, before arriving at Columbia Icefield for a fantastic Ice Explorer trip to the dynamic Athabasca Glacier. In the afternoon, spend time at the Columbia Icefield Discovery Centre and wander along the Glacier Skywalk – a glass floored platform that juts out 30km over the sweeping Sunwapta Canyon. Once you’ve arrived in Lake Louise, you’ll have the rest of the day to explore one of the world’s most photographed lakes in the world.

Day 9

First you’ll leave Lake Louise and journey to Banff National Park and its attractive town. You may even spot elk, moose and bear as you make your way through Banff’s curving roads. The rest of your day is free for exploring Banff’s welcoming restaurants, bars and shops.

Overnight: Standard Option – Banff Aspen Lodge or Banff International Hotel. Deluxe Option – Delta Banff Royal Canadian Lodge or Fox Hotel & Suites

Day 10

The day is free for you to explore even more of Banff’s remote town, including fascinating museums and beautiful mountain views. You could even organise an excursion – the gondola that rises up to the towering Sulphur Mountain is a must, as it even includes an easy Summit Walk to the top of the mountain.

Day 11

Today your tour comes to an end. Transfer to Calgary International Airport for your flight home.
