Overview

A shorter version of our most popular tour features direct flights with Air Transat from Manchester showcasing all the must see sights at a great price.  You tour through the Majestic Rockies from Calgary with stays in Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper.  From Jasper you take the Rocky Mountaineer to Vancouver before your 7 night cruise of Alaska on Holland America.

Day 1

Arrive in Calgary

Arrive into Calgary and transfer to the beautiful town of Banff via a luxury motorcoach.

Day 2

Banff to Lake Louise

Travel along the Bow Valley Parkway to Johnston Canyon, where you will enjoy an easy walk before touring the Lake Louise area.  Enjoy a stop at the world renowned Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise to see the famous lake with the Victoria Glacier in the background.  Following lunch (included), travel to Moraine Lake and the Valley Of The Ten Peaks. Next, stop at the Spiral Tunnels to learn about one of the most infamous parts of the Canadian railway on your way through the Kicking Horse Pass to Yoho National Park in British Columbia. Take in the awesome power of Takakkaw Falls before your scenic return trip to Lake Louise, arriving in the late afternoon.

Day 3

Lake Louise to Jasper

Travel north today along the famous Icefields Parkway, which remains one of the most striking highways in North America, as you journey through Banff and Jasper National Parks, stopping at Columbia Icefield and the Glacier Skywalk. Here you will enjoy lunch (included) at the Columbia Icefield Discovery Centre then board a Brewster Ice Explorer and head out onto the slopes of the Athabasca Glacier. On this excursion, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about the geological features of this ancient glacier, as well as how glaciers are formed.

Just a few moments from the Athabasca Glacier is the Glacier Skywalk, the newest attraction at Jasper National Park and a truly remarkable feat of architecture comprising a 400m interpretive boardwalk and glass-floored observation platform extending 30m out over the Sunwapta Valley. After this exhilarating adventure, keep your camera ready to snap the majestic Athabasca Falls as you arrive into Jasper.

Day 4

Jasper

The excursion this morning will begin along the Athabasca Canadian Heritage River, where you’ll learn about David Thompson and the eco-system of the valley itself. Travel to Maligne Canyon and its limestone walls, forged from some 10,000 years of flowing water. Afterwards, visit a real place of mystery and source of Indian legend as you head to Medicine Lake, which sometimes actually disappears! As you reach Maligne Lake, the largest natural lake in the Canadian Rockies, you’ll be almost guaranteed to see a range of mountain wildlife – this is a sensational area with amazing views.

Day 5

Jasper to Kamloops

Journey onwards aboard the Rocky Mountaineer from Jasper to Kamloops. The scenery of the Continental Divide and the river valleys of Monashee and the Cariboo Mountains is breath-taking, surrounding you as you head southwest. The highlights of the day include Mount Robson, Pyramid Falls, the climb over Yellowhead Pass, and the journey along the North Thompson River as you approach Kamloops.

Day 6

Kamloops to Vancouver

Head west today towards the Pacific Ocean and the coastal city of Vancouver today, where you’ll once again be treated to a host of scenic wonders in the form of desert-like interiors, winding river canyons and beautiful forests. Watch out for the steep slopes and rock sheds along the Thompson River and the gushing waters of Hell’s Gate in the Fraser Canyon. Your rail journey concludes this evening as you arrive into Vancouver.

Day 7

Embarkation

Transfer early this afternoon to the Vancouver cruise terminal where you will board your ship.

Today sees you sail through the dramatic scenery of the Inside Passage.

Day 9

Port of Call Juneau, Alaska

Found at the foot of the grand mountain peaks on the Gastineau Channel, Juneau is in a prime location with the Mendenhall Glacier and the Juneau Icefields on its doorstep. This place is a nature lover’s dream location, with the chance to hike, kayak, raft, fish and whale-watch, to name but a few of the things to do here. Explore the Tongass National Forest or visit the rustic shops in town – due to the long daylight hours, your Juneau adventure can last that little bit longer.

Day 10

Port of Call Skagway, Alaska

Take a stroll into the past by exploring the little stores and saloons of this unique destination. From the Trail Bench to Lynch and Kennedy’s Dry Goods, and the fun Red Onion Saloon complete with honky-tonk piano and costumed barmaids, everything about your time here will be memorable! The Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park offers restored buildings and wooden boardwalks, taking you right back to the past.

Day 11

Glacier Bay

Glacier Bay National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve, protects a unique eco-system of plants and wildlife living in conjunction with the ever-changing glacial landscape. It’s a beautiful and memorable area, with monumental chunks of ice splitting periodically from the glacier and crashing into the sea, shooting water thousands of feet into the air.

Day 12

Port of Call Ketchikan, Alaska

Set out over the waters, Ketchikan clings to the shores of the Tongass Narrows and drapes the mountain sides. Take some time to visit some of the top attractions here, such as Totem Bight State Park, Saxman Village, Creek Street and the Tongass Historical Museum.

Day 13

Inside Passage

Enjoy sailing through the dramatic Inside Passage today as you make your way to Vancouver.

Day 14

Vancouver

After breakfast you will disembark in Vancouver, where your holiday concludes.  Make your own way by taxi to the airport for your flight home.
