Tour Information

The Great Ice Bear is undoubtedly the most diverse polar bear viewing package, as it combines 3 1/2 days at Seal River Lodge - where bears are seen and photographed on foot or from the lodge with one half day in Churchill to explore and shop and one full day on the Tundra Buggy ®. It is this ability to see polar bears in the most natural setting possible combined with the luxuriousness of the wilderness lodge and an unobstructed view of the northern lights in the night sky that sets The Great Ice Bear adventure apart from any other similar packages.

Day 1

Start your holiday with a transatlantic flight from your chosen UK airport to Winnipeg, Manitoba where we will spend the first night in a quality hotel near the airport.
Hotel: Delta Winnipeg

Day 2

The next morning after an early flight from Winnipeg we arrive in Churchill where one of our expert staff will meet you and provide an orientation to the tour.
Your adventure begins with your transfer by helicopter or fixed wing aircraft to Seal River Lodge. Your exciting flight takes you out over the historic Churchill River, northwest up the rugged Hudson Bay coast to Canada’s most exclusive Polar Bear Lodge, accessible to only the most intrepid of travellers.
This day includes a guided hike on our rugged and starkly beautiful coastline, an interpretive slide show featuring the wildlife of Hudson Bay, and hopefully a clear night for viewing the Aurora Borealis.
Lunch and Dinner included
3 nights at Seal River Lodge

Day 3-4

Spend two full days experiencing the polar bears’ Hudson Bay home. The walks are comfortably paced, geared towards plenty of viewing and photo opportunities, and are guided by our professional and knowledgeable tour leaders. Obviously we cannot allow the bears to approach too closely, and your guides are expert in keeping bears at a safe distance without sacrificing exciting viewing. Polar bears are known to saunter by our Lodge on a regular basis so you can often view them from the warmth and comfort of one of our lounges through the huge “picture windows”. Weather permitting, lunches will be taken out in the field on as many of these days as possible.
Evenings are spent in the Lodge around the fireplace and feature informative and exciting lectures and slide presentations by our tour leaders.
Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included

Day 5

Experience another exciting aerial tour en route to Churchill from the lodge. Upon arrival you will be escorted to your overnight accommodations to check in. After lunch, there is a brief tour and orientation of Churchill. The afternoon is then free to visit the shops of Churchill, as well as the world-renowned Eskimo Museum, the Parks Canada Centre.
All customers will be provided with a food voucher of $ 25 per person which will be redeemable at several restaurants locally that evening,
1 night at Churchill Hotel
Breakfast and Dinner included

Day 6

Today you will travel across the tundra in the world famous Tundra Buggies ® for more polar bear viewing. Because of Churchill’s popularity come fall, there will be numerous other buggies full of bear watchers in the area, however it remains a great way to get up close to these wonderful creatures. Lunch "with the bears", is also included on the tour.
In the late afternoon a flight will return us to Winnipeg for the night.
Hotel: Delta Winnipeg
Breakfast and Lunch included

Day 7

Spend the morning exploring Winnipeg before boarding your transatlantic flight to the UK

Day 8

Arrive back in the UK during the day to your chosen airport.

The buggies are large rubber tyred coach-like vehicles with large windows and a rear deck for viewing, and are positioned 10 feet from the ground.
The buggy tour takes you out to the area where the bears congregate before the ice forms.

During the lodge portion of the tour the chances of seeing a bear are extremely high during any of the walks or from the window of the lodge.
The Lodge’s beautifully decorated viewing lounges are complemented by well-appointed bedrooms with private bathrooms.
